Mental Health Care for Detainees, Refugees and Immigrants
Trauma-Informed Psychiatric Support for Displaced and Vulnerable Populations
Meta Psychiatry provides specialist mental health services for detainees, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants experiencing psychological distress. We offer trauma-informed, culturally sensitive psychiatric care tailored to the unique needs and lived experiences of those navigating complex legal, social and emotional challenges.
Understanding the Needs of Displaced Communities
Individuals who have experienced displacement, immigration, or detention often face significant psychological stress. Many are survivors of war, torture, persecution or family separation. The mental health consequences may include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance and adjustment disorders.
At Meta Psychiatry, we recognise the layered and ongoing nature of this distress. Our psychiatrists provide assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans grounded in empathy and cultural awareness. We liaise with legal teams, support agencies, GPs and case managers as needed to ensure continuity of care.
We support clients engaged in immigration processes, detention release programs, or refugee settlement pathways.

Accessing Safe, Supportive Psychiatric Care
We are committed to delivering care that is free from judgement, aligned with human rights principles, and responsive to cultural and linguistic diversity. Interpreting services can be arranged for clients as required.
Our services include:
• Psychiatric assessments and diagnostic clarification
• Trauma-informed care and PTSD treatment
• Reports for immigration, detention or humanitarian submissions
• Ongoing support for depression, anxiety, psychosis and adjustment disorders
Clients can be seen at our Springwood clinic or via secure telehealth consultations if preferred. We accept referrals from doctors, social workers, lawyers, immigration support services, community organisations and family members.

Innovative Treatments: Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)
Meta Psychiatry is proud to offer Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) as part of our treatment options. rTMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, offering relief for individuals experiencing major depressive disorders. This therapy is particularly beneficial for patients who have not responded to traditional treatments.
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is an effective treatment for major depressive disorders. It involves the focal application of a localised, pulsed magnetic field to the brain inducing small electrical currents which stimulate nerve cells.
