Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I book an emergency appointment?
A. Unfortunately, Meta Psychiatry does not have the capacity to book emergency appointments. If you are in an emergency, please call 000. If you are in Qld, you can call Mental Health Line on 1300 642 255.

Q. I need a script refill ASAP, can my doctor send me one?
A. Best clinical practice guidelines suggest a review prior to issuing a repeat script. As practice policy requires an appointment to be made for script refills, your doctor will not send you a script without having an appointment first.
Please be mindful of when your current script will end and book ahead of time as our clinic does not have the capacity to book an appointment on a short notice.

Q. I have already been diagnosed with ADHD elsewhere, do I still need 2 appointments?
A. At Meta Psychiatry , we understand the importance of thorough and accurate assessments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our assessment process is designed to ensure comprehensive evaluation while considering individual patient circumstances.
For most patients, the ADHD assessment typically requires two appointments. This allows the psychiatrist to gather detailed information, conduct necessary evaluations, and provide a thorough diagnosis. However, we recognise that some patients may have already undergone previous assessments.
If you have been previously diagnosed with ADHD by a psychiatrist or a paediatrician and can provide a confirmation letter stating this diagnosis, you may only need one assessment appointment. This streamlined process helps to avoid unnecessary repetition while still ensuring appropriate care.
For patients who have been diagnosed with ADHD by a psychologist, we assess each case individually. This is due to variations in diagnostic processes and the need to consider additional medical information . In many instances, even with a prior psychological assessment, two appointments with a psychiatrist may still be necessary. This allows us to assess your condition, consider any medical and psychiatric comorbidities, and evaluate the suitability of various medication options if indicated
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive assessment that takes into account your individual history and needs, ensuring you receive the most appropriate care and treatment for ADHD.
Q. What are the wait times?
A. Our current wait time for an appointment is 4-5 weeks.

Q. Why do I have to pay a deposit?
A. We require all initial appointments to pay a deposit upon booking and the remaining amount to be paid within 3 business days of your appointment. Any review appointments must be paid in full upon booking.
This ensures the security of your appointment and ensures the patients commitment to their appointment.

Q. What is your referral process?
A. Once we have received your referral, one of our psychiatrists will then review and advise the admin team how to proceed (what kind of appointment you will need, if a specific practitioner will be more suited to your appointment type etc)
Once they have done so, we will be in contact to book your appointment – this is usually within 24-48 hours of receiving your referral. If your GP has sent a referral to our clinic and you don't hear from us in 3-4 days, it is recommended that you call us to follow up to confirm that the referral was sent to this clinic. You can email us the referral at admin@metapsychiatry.com.au
Q. What is the cost of an appointment?
A. Please see our FEES page for all relevant fees.
